We have a balanced literacy and mathematics programs in Denver. We strive to meet the individual needs of children as they grow in their academic skills. The following standards are assessed in TK:
ENGLISH AND LANGUAGE ARTS Reading-literature
I can actively engage in group reading activities.
I can read a story using the pictures.
With prompting and support, I can retell a familiar story including characters, setting, and major events.
Reading-informational
I can tell the main idea of a nonfiction text along with some key details.

I can follow words from left to right, top to bottom, and page by page.
I can understand that words are separated by spaces.
I can understand the one to one match between with written and spoken words.
I can name all uppercase and lowercase letters of the alphabet.
Phonics and word recognition
I can identify letter sounds at random.
I can pronounce the first sound of a given word.
I can decode consonant-vowel-consonant words.
I can read grade level high-frequency words.
WRITING
I can write my first and last name with a capital letter and lowercase letters.
I can use a combination of drawing and writing to express a thought.
I can leave spaces between written words.
I can use letter-sound knowledge to spell words.
With guidance and support from adults, I can produce a piece of writing.
MATH
Counting and Cardinality
I can write to 20.
I can count objects to 20.
I can count to 100 by ones.
I can count to 30 beginning at a given number other than 1.
I can compare objects and numbers: more, less and equal.
I can compose and decompose numbers from 11-19 into tens and ones.
Operations and Algebraic Thinking
I can find the number that makes 10 when added to another number from 1-9.
I can solve addition story problems.
Measurement and Data
I can sort objects by attributes: shape, color, size, and thickness.
I can directly compare two objects with a measurable attribute in common: longer, shorter, or the same.
Geometry
I can correctly name flat shapes regardless of their position or size.
I can correctly name solid shapes regardless of their position.
I can solve addition story problems.
